Flitch cottage – Motherby House
Flitch Cottage is a two bedroomed converted coach house the ideal base for exploring the Lake District National Park. The Eden Valley, Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian’s Wall are also within easy distance. The Nearest lake is Ullswater, the second largest lake in the National Park. It’s considered by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes, The Lake steamers with their regular service from Pooley Bridge, Howtown and Glenridding and a new service to Aira Force all help you explore the Ullswater valley.The lake shore was the setting for Wordsworth famous Daffodils poem and is a sight to see when the flowers are in bloom.
Flitch Cottage is a’great outdoors’ base for the walkers, whether you enjoy high mountain rugged walking or the more gentle but varied beautiful lakeshore paths.
The Ullswater Way is a 20-mile walking route around Ullswater. The route can be walked in either direction and from any starting point. Why not walk the route in shorter sections, using an open top bus or steamer to start your journey!
Helvellyn and the famous Striding and Swirral Edges are real mountain days for the serious mountain walker. An ideal base for tackling the winter climbs on the face of Helvellyn but only for the experienced mountaineer with ice axe rope and crampons.
Cycling both on and off road, sailing, canoeing & fishing. Or just relax on the shores of Ullswater and be sure to look out for Red Squirrels in the woods. Aira Force waterfalls are really worth exploring.
